We had a good scare yesterday, one of the horses got herself stuck on the tie rail which caused a (mild) nosebleed.
Just about 15 minutes before, while my husband was getting Tinderella from her stall, I stumbled into the barn out of curiosity and was surprised to see my grooming bag still there in one of the corners.

A few weeks ago, when I broke my knee, my husband had thrown all of my stuff in the car and drove me to the hospital. BUT; we left behind my grooming bag, something I hadn't realized until I saw it in the tack room yesterday.

So I grabbed the bag and placed it outside, so I wouldn't forget to take it home with me later. I put the bag on the ground next to the tie rail when suddenly a pair of scissors fell out... the same pair of scissors I lost a few months ago!! I had searched everywhere for several weeks, turned my bag upside down but it was GONE.

I was relieved but also a bit frustrated about how this could happen. I tossed the scissors back into/on top of my bag to deal with it later and started grooming/tacking up the horse.

A few minutes later she somehow got stuck, her noseband had slipped right under the tying loop (bottom left corner in the picture above) and of course she immediately started to try and pull herself free. The tie rail is cemented into the ground so it won't give, but in my mind I was scared she would injure herself.

Then I remembered my pair of scissors, the one I had just tossed into my bag a couple feet away from us. Within a minute I had reached the scissors and was able to cut the horse's halter. She was a little upset but calmed down very quickly and let me clean her nose, which stopped bleeding soon after it all had happened.

Later at home, I kept replaying the incident, trying not to think about what could have happened if I hadn't left my bag at the rescue, hadn't walked into the barn to find it, magically found my scissors just moments before...

It goes without saying that there's now always a cutter at the grooming spot!
